This website is a personal project of Douglas McCarroll, a Northampton resident. You can contact him via our contact page.
How do you decide what data to include?
We consider the following factors when deciding whether or not to include a data set on these pages:
- Does it interest us?
- Might it contribute to our community thought process?
- Do we have access to, or can we find, reliable data?
- Can it be displayed in a way that is easy to understand?
Can I suggest subjects and/or data sources?
- Yes, please do!
- With a few caveats …
- Please understand that this is an unpaid side-project and we have very busy lives. Our bandwidth is limited.
- We appreciate and consider all suggestions, but may not be able to implement some excellent suggestions.
- The most time-consuming aspect of this project is finding data sources. It will increase the likelihood that we will use your suggestion if you can include details such as:
- Where appropriate data can be found
- Where resources can be found which explain the data: what it means, how it is obtained, etc.
If this is a one-person project, why do you use words like “we”, “us” and “our” to refer to yourself?
Douglas uses these terms for multiple reasons:
- Most importantly, they make him feel more important 🙂
- Simultaneously, they somehow also make him feel more anonymous
- This project is a collaborative effort which simply displays data that many other people have spent many hours gathering and compiling. In some cases our plural pronouns simply reflect this fact.
